In trying to determine how much money the EU has allocated to Serbia during the years of the refugee crisis, the deeper you dig, the more inconsistencies you find in the publicly available data.
Take, for instance, the official EU Projects to Serbia website—a platform that appears well-organized and efficient. In the “Migration Management” sector, it lists eight projects with a stated total budget of 158 million euros. However, when examining a diagram on the same page, this budget figure mysteriously drops to 130 million euros.
This discrepancy, while relatively small, raises questions. But it doesn’t stop there. When you dig deeper and individually sum up the budgets of the eight listed projects (https://www.euzatebe.rs/en/projects/archive/filter/page/1/sector/150) the total amounts to less than 10 million euros—a stark contrast to both of the previous figures.
This is just a small example, yet it’s indicative of a broader pattern of inconsistency in the reporting of EU funds.
